Get to know us

WE’VE BEEN AT THIS FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

Four generations of Burtka’s have been making wines in this country for the enjoyment of their friends and families. John + Denise Burtka decided to turn this passion into career by creating Cherry Creek Winery in 2003, a boutique winery using old world hand crafting from their European roots. Nestled in the Irish Hills, the Burtka’s established a new destination for wine lovers in Michigan.

NEW NAME, SAME GREAT WINE.

Eventually the time was right to move on and in 2018 the Burtka’s chose Winemaker and Vineyard Manager, Patrick Spensley to carry the torch forward. Patrick got his start in the industry working in vineyards and wineries in New Zealand. Over the years since returning to the States, he has worked his way up the ranks at the newly renamed Cherry Creek Cellars, gaining a deep appreciation and passion for the industry, people + great wine.

WE TAKE OUR GRAPES VERY SERIOUSLY.

We tend our 5 acre estate vineyard with care and take pride producing quality wines from the Hybrid varietals we grow. Although we experience more extreme winters than other vineyards, our warm summer days and cool nights are ideal for ripening premium wine grapes. Trust us, just try our big reds + fruity whites.

WE’RE BIASED TOWARDS MICHIGAN.

We use our own grapes whenever possible. But in order to deliver the best product, we contract with some of the best growers in Michigan for premium Vinifera grapes. These grapes from the Lake Michigan Shore produce award winning wines year after year.  We strongly believe in supporting our local economy and use only grapes and fruits from other Michigan vineyards.
